Once you’ve started to play an instrument, there’s something magical about playing and singing with others. There are many opportunities for children and young people to perform in a wide variety of groups from beginner to advanced levels. Performing in an ensemble brings so many benefits to student development, both musically and in the broader skills such as perseverence, commitment, empathy and emotional intelligence. Playing in an ensemble is the place to make friends and to enjoy the many activities and events organised, from local concerts to performing in major UK venues or touring in other parts of the world.
Within Gwent Music, we organise a wide range of bands and other music groups at our five Music Centres, within each Local Authority and across the whole Greater Gwent area.
Our youth ensembles undertake a wide programme of activities and concert events. Most of our ensembles have enjoyed performances at the major venues in the UK, including the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, and St David’s Hall. A number of our groups have also toured extensively. In recent years, our students have experienced the excitement of performing in a number of European countries, including France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Czech Republic and Poland and they have also travelled further afield to the USA, Australia and New Zealand. The Greater Gwent Youth Orchestra travelled to Western Bohemia in August 2014 for a concert tour.
